FORT SMITH, AR (April 21, 2014)  - Longtime Fort Smith resident and current At-Large Position 6 City Director Kevin Settle has announced that he will run for a third term.

Director Settle expressed personal satisfaction about his role as city director.  Some key highlights of his second term include: residential, industrial, and I-49 growth in Chaffee Crossing; continued wet weather, drainage, and street improvements; new job recruitment and existing job retention; sewer and water plant treatment expansions; fire station upgrades, expansion and new equipment; Vision 2025, including comprehensive plan updates; reduction in sanitation rates for all citizens, and the progress the City has made in developing regional economic relationships.

Settle was also a leader in city park upgrades, including the new aquatic facility and the two new softball fields at Ben Geren Regional Park.

Director Settle says he believes his work as a city leader is not finished. “It has been exciting to serve as at-large director for two terms and be an active participant in the transformation of Fort Smith. The combined progress and infrastructure investments we have made will make Fort Smith attractive to families, businesses and visitors for years to come. Having served as director for two terms and vice-mayor for one term, I feel I am very well informed about the needs and the vision the people of Fort Smith have for their city and I would like to continue the work we have begun together. I want to continue to provide experienced leadership as a City Director and build on the foundation we have laid so our city will be prepared for growth and development in the future.”

In addition to being a faithful attendee of numerous city related meetings throughout his seven years of public service, Director Settle is actively involved in state and community civic organizations. In 2013, he was appointed chairman of the Large First Class Cities Advisory Council for the Arkansas Municipal League. He represents the city board on the City of Fort Smith Audit Committee and he serves as a board member of Western Arkansas Planning and Development District. Settle frequently supports numerous non-profit organizations in the area. He just finished serving as president of the noon Kiwanis Club (2011-2013) and he is a current member of Boys & Girls Club Alumni.

Kevin, his wife, Terri, and their two daughters, Katie and Rachel, are lifelong residents of Fort Smith. He is a 1992 graduate of Southside High School, a 1994 graduate of Westark Community College and a 1996 graduate of the University of Arkansas Fayetteville, with a B.S. Chemical Engineering Degree.
